Review: Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector™
9:37 AMDamnnnnnnn this a good primer! Normally my reviews starts off as an intro, but I can't help it, this is a darn good primer for oily skin. I also believe this is even better for people who have large pores, fine lines and want their makeup to last up to 12 hours. Read further for this priceless addition to my makeup routine.
Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector Claims
A targeted oil-control primer that perfects and minimizes pores for mattified skin that lasts up to 12 hours. Go beyond extending makeup wear to address the root cause of why your makeup moves. The formula is sweat- and humidity-resistant and free of silicone, oil, alcohol, and fragrance.

Dislike
- Expensive
- Very Drying
- Not A Stand Along
- Require Warming Up Before Application
This is a super thick primer, so you do have to warm it up between your finger tips before applying it. When I applied this, I do tend to see spots of "ashiness" in certain area, and I just proceed to rub that area, and it goes away. If you happen to notice a lot of really dry (ashiness) on your face, then you are using too much of this primer, a little does goes a long way. You also have to be very quick when you apply this primer, because it dries very fast and very matte.
Help "Reduces" Oil Production
I fall under the extremely oily skin when I wear makeup, which means I get oily all over, and not just around my t-zones. I can truly say this primer did help "reduce" the oil my skin produces, but not up to 12 hours like the package claimed.
Now this product did not keep me 100% matted, but I can stay for sure that it did REDUCED my oil production. I now only need to blot my T-Zone area vs. all of my face. That alone is a HUGE success!!! Normally I get oily all over, which required about two full sheet of bloating paper and a half (twice daily).
Good As a Stand Alone?
I tried using this with my moisturizer only, and I'm sad to say that wasn't successful. I noticed oil seeping through about 4 hours in, and I had to bloat right away (which was about 5 hours in). The only thing I have to note was that the makeup was still intact, and as fresh as how it looked that morning.
The second time I use the Becca Primer, I use it with my moisturizer first, then my MAC Oil Control Lotion, and that turned out to be a success. That method had me matted a lot longer, and give me more of a dewy shine around noon vs. a very oily skin with my first try with this primer. So no, this can not be use as a stand alone for extremely oily skin.
So I bet you are wondering why I still think this primer is good? Well it all boils down to the staying power of my makeup, and how much the slight wrinkles and pores are gone when I apply this primer. I also love the richness of my makeup when I use this primer as well.
So yeah, I'm still not free from the bloating paper or the blot pressed powder, but I'm hoping as I continued to treat the core issue of my skin by moisturizing it day and night, the oiliness of my skin will be down to a minimum at the most.
Glue My Makeup to My Skin
What I LOVE about this primer is that it also tightens my skin, and actually makes my face a truly blank "sticky" canvas! The stickiness is just a description of the connection between the primer and my makeup, because it is not sticky, I'm just using the word "sticky" as a metaphor because the makeup feel like it sticks to my face, and doesn't transfer to everyday items such as my sunglasses like previous before. That is when you truly know your makeup will last a really long time,
Examples!!
By looking at these pictures, you should see the difference between the two primers (MAC VS. Becca). On the left you should see more fine line, and on the right with the new primer, less fine line and the face looks smoother, and just more vibrantly fresher. I like using the iPhone pictures, because they don't lie, and clearly Becca is the primer for me.
Conclusion
If you have dry skin, I can't recommend this to you because it is very drying. If you have a combination skin, then this would be prefect for you, and should keep you matted for up to 12 as it claims. If you have very oily skin, this product will help with the combination of other product to keep you matted.

Loved your extensive review! While I also found this primer very drying (personally way too much for my combo/oily skin), the whole BECCA range is practically on my Sephora wish list. So many cool and innovative items from this brand!

Finding things to help with oily skin is like the worst! Nothing really seems to work! This sounds good though but hate how it doesn't last long.
ReplyDeleteAlso I find sometimes if the primer does not work I seem to get a few pores which sucks. But great review :D

This one did help with my pores...but mines weren't that large to begin with.
DeleteThis was a really helpful post--thank you! I unfortunately have very dry skin so I suppose based on your review this is not quite the product for me! But thank you for your honesty!

primers can definitely get expensive!! my makeup definitely does not stay with just a primer alone. i found that using a setting spray after my primer sets (and sometimes after i'm done with my makeup) helps significantly. i know it's worked when my blush is still on my face by the end of the day :)
ReplyDeleteWill have to look into a settling spray. Never heard it before til now. So far, everything has lasted til I get home with this primer.
DeleteI don't even know what primer is...., no kidding either. I didn't used to putting make up until I started to post my outfit on my website a couple of months again.
ReplyDeleteThanks for educating me!

I'm on the same boat as you. Didn't really start wearing makeup until I started blogging about my fashion. Now I know from experience what a primer does.
DeleteHmmm this sounds like a product I should look into - thank you for sharing. I don't use a primer right now and I feel like I should!
