5 Years & Counting - Happy Anniversary

8:29 AM

This blog has come a LONG way from how I ended my last Anniversary. The best and most meaningful improvement was my makeup application and skill. Since today is my Sisterlocks Anniversary, I want to update you on my Sisterlocks. I don't know if you notice, most likely you did, my hair styling edition has taking a back seat. Not by choice I assure you. My hair is growing back fully in the middle now, and right now I'm just patiently waiting for them to get to a decent length to start styling them again. The overall length is perfect now, and soon I may be trimming them since their are almost at my ideal length. Below is a close up of my Sisterlocks at 5 Years. With the new edition of "What I Wore" series, you can view the length etc. on a daily bases. I'm looking forward to the next anniversary.

I have a lot of posts about my Sisterlocks journey, and I think I pretty much cover everything I could about Sisterlocks, but if you have something you want me to talk about or even to research, let me know. If I haven't a post about it, I will release it after doing my typical research etc. Thanks as always for the love!

  2. Congratulations Kreyola on the loc anniversary and your new blog direction! Totally awesome! I only had one question that I want your input on. For those who have thinner areas at the start of their Sisterlocks journey, do you advise the Sisterlock technicians to put larger Sisterlocks in those areas or keep them smaller? I only ask because I have known two certified Sisterlocks consultants to advocate larger locs which is what I was given. So I feel that I had some super sized parts in my crown area which after having another certified Sisterlocks consultant overtighten, I could hear my hair ripping at the mere scratching of my head in that area. Of course, now, I keep the locs with the supersized partings looser so that I will not rip the hair out during shampooing, etc. So I have vowed that I would not give anyone with a similar challenge anything larger than what are within the Sisterlocks guidelines. I am open to your feedback on this topic. You may have covered it in a separate blog article prior to me following you a few years ago. So I will also search your blog to see if you already covered this topic. Again, congratulations! Love your blog!

    1. Thanks Benita :)

I can see why they advocated larger locks because smaller Sisterlocks does require so much work and to tell you the truth, majority of the ladies will not and can't handle that. As for thinner hair, it all depends on what look you going for. If you go bigger, I think the thinnest of your hair is more apparent vs. growing smaller. If you want fullness, you should go with the standard small "safest" Sisterlocks.

Smaller Sisterlocks required a strong commitment. You just can't go longer then 4-6 week on smaller Sisterlocks because you will not have enough hair strands to support the locks. I myself (speaking from personally experience) see what can happen when the new growth can be too much, and I can see how I can pop a couple of strand of my hair, and by doing that alone, my locks can start to get thinner and offer less support for the whole lock.

As for your hair ripping, the only way that can happen is by simply having a lock that is too thick for the root (new growth). That is why I will always recommend to go a little bit smaller then what you are comfortable with, and just be careful with the request of large locks, because you can always merge smaller ones if you find after they mature they are too small, but splitting a large lock is bothersome and can introduce damage to the locks itself.

I follow one person that has thin hair and has Sisterlocks, and her locks seem to follow the standard size Sisterlocks guideline. I also find that my consultant also sticks to Sisterlocks guidelines to this very day, and she has YEARS of experiences. So if I were to become a consultant, I would stick with the guideline myself. I would rather turn away someone that doesn't fully understand what getting Sisterlocks entail, then put big locks that doesn’t even resemble what they are paying for, which is Sisterlocks.

  3. Wow, 5 years? Happy anniversary. Your sisterlocs look really good. I don't think I could handle it, each strand is so tiny. It looks really good on you though. Again, congrats.

    1. Yeah 5 years! I get "I don't think I could handle it" a lot. It is a huge comment for real to have them that small. You can have them bigger by the way. Thanks again for the comment :)

    1. Thanks so much :D. I too can't believe how time fly. I so remember when I was just wishing for length. Now it is going with the flow because the length is workable now.
