Reviews: M.A.C Ruby Woo, Viva Glam VI and Flat Out Fabulous - Wet-n-Wild Stoplight Red
8:52 AM
Below reviews are on three shades of lipsticks that I hold very dear to my heart, and one additional drugstore brand (similar to Ruby Woo).
If you recently join my blog as a follower, this year was when I truly decided to fully dedicated the time and money to learn how to apply makeup. I'm a NW 50 on the M.A.C. line, so I have to admit that I never thought any of these shades would work on me until one of my readers (Takei/Cookie) suggested two of them. So below are my thoughts on these gorgeous lipsticks.
Note: I applied each lipstick quickly and that was in order to remember what I liked and disliked about each. Stoplight Red is the one that I should have used last because it tends to smudge, so please disregard the imperfection of the pictures..thanks :D.
M.A.C Ruby Woo
Claims
Color plus texture for the lips. Stands out on the runway. Simmers on the street! What made M·A·C famous. Pigment rich with intense color pay-off. No-shine, all matte finish.

I love this shade of lipsticks, and I absolutely ADORE the matted finish of Ruby Woo. Yes this lipstick tends to be very drying but I can't help but love how it looks. It has such a pretty gradually fades and it looks good to the very end. So yes I put a negative for Ruby Woo for the dryness, but that can easily be overcome with just prepping your lip with the right Lip Balm.
I have another shade of red that is very similar to Ruby Woo, and that is the Wet-n-Wild MegaLast Lip Color, Stoplight Red (drugstore brand), and I immediately notice a different. I prefer the Ruby Woo because it has more of a matted finish vs. Stoplight Red, and it is much more easier to apply. Ruby Woo also goes on very smooth on the lips, and last a really long time. You can view how and when I wore this lipstick here and here.

For a drug store lipstick, this is a pretty good red semi-matted lipstick. Even though the finish is supposed to be more matted (based on other bloggers), I found this one still had a bit of a shine compare to M.A.C. Ruby Woo. If you can't afford the Ruby Woo, I highly recommend Stoplight Red as an alternative because not only is it super pigmented, it also last a long time.
Even though Spotlight Red guide on your lips smoothly, I have to knock it for the smudging and the staining. I also think the packaging of this lipstick is annoying and I hope they change it soon. The problem with the packaging is as follow, when you are done using Spotlight Red you have to put the cap back and that alone is a pain. Some of the lipstick can get caught on the cap, so you have to be really careful when putting it back on. It also doesn't go all the way down, which make having the cap a requirement if you don't want a mess in your purse. Overall...this is not a bad product considering what I paid for it. You can see this color on me here.
M.A.C Flat Out Fabulous
Claims

M.A.C Ruby Woo is more matted then M.A.C Flat Out Fabulous that is for sure, but I still say Flat Out Fabulous is very much a matted lipstick. The color of this is between a fuchsia & plum color with an amazing matte finish. I was hesitated about this color since I didn't think the color would fit me until I wore it here and here. Once I wore it, I feel even more in love with it because of the color faded. I so prefer this color/finish vs. the Wild Orchid by Revlon.
M.A.C Viva Glam VI
Claims
Viva Glam VI, the newest member of the VIVA GLAM family, is a warm terracotta-plum with pearl finish.

M.A.C Viva Glam VI is a very pretty color. I don't wear it much because it requires me to outline my lips with a pencil (which is not a negative at all), and when I'm rushing, I don't usually go for it, I just go for Revlon Choco-Liscious for a quick natural looking lipstick. This lipstick is not drying, and gives off a nice glossy/simmery lips (I call them the kissable lips lol). As you can see in the above picture, Viva Glam VI has a different packing then the Flat Out Fabulous and Ruby Woo. While Rubo Woo and Flat Out Fabulous has a Matted Subtitle, Viva Glam has the subtitle of Lustre. You can check the color on on me here
Conclusion: M.A.C Ruby Woo & Flat Out Fabulous lipsticks are my favorites, and must be in my makeup bag no matter what. If you can splurge a little, I highly recommend these two. I also want to share a tip that that helped me greatly. If you going to wear bright lipstick like Ruby Woo and Flat Out Fabulous, and are new to the world of makeup application, go easy on the eye shadows, since the lipstick is bold already. I also recommend to go easy on the blush (and avoid looking like a clown like I did with my first encounter with red lipsticks -_-). I always go for the M.A.C. Blunt Blush for the blush since it is not that noticeably with those two bright shade of colors.

So true...that is one color I think that would be universal for ladies of all skin type. Anyone can wear it.
DeleteUsually I purchase different brands, Im not sure why, but I love the colors these mac bring.

Yeah I like to purchase different brands too (and more on the budget friendly side). I have one more color from MAC to get, and then I want to try others. Just don't know what yet.
DeleteI love this review.. and although Ruby Woo is def one of my favs it is in fact soooo drying! But I like the matte look so putting a light gloss on top changes it to something I don't like. Def put a little EOS balm under it myself lol.

I totally agree about your statement on putting lip gloss over it. It totally change the look of it...makes it lose the chic and vintage look that I love. You HAVE to put a lip balm before putting these matted lipsticks on. Thanks for the comment!
DeleteRuby woo all the way!
ReplyDeleteYup...couldn't agree more :).
DeleteI've heard great things about Ruby Woo but I'm glad you were honest about the drying aspect of it. Still, what a beautiful color!
ReplyDeleteAnother Beautiful Thing
It is very drying if you don't put a lip balm underneath it. That is why I highly recommend you get a good one.

I will check out the video and thanks for sharing that.
DeleteI love Flat Out Fabulous and thinking of getting a pencil to change the look around a bit as well.
I like Ruby Woo because it totally takes me out of my shell, and just give me a completely different alter ego (just like Sasha fierce alter ego of Beyoncé). I just love the vintage/retro look of that this matted red lipstick and it really does boosts and makes me feel sultry and pretty (*blushing*).
Thanks for the follower shout out, I don't know what it is about me but I can never ask people to do things like that. I just hope people genuine like me and start to follow me because they like what they read and see.
Anyway...I like that you looking out for me, so don't worry and keep sending stuff about stuff you find.

Yeah the shyness I still have but it seem to be going away on its own. Did you send me another email? I don't think I got another from you if you did. Have a great and fun weekend.
DeleteXoXo
I love your collection of lipsticks!! You should try wearing Ruby woo with a moisturising lip balm if it is too dry on your lips.
ReplyDeleteEffortlesslady.blogspot.ca
Oh yeah Diana...I totally found out about prepping my lips with a good balm when I purchase the lip tar by OCC. That one is a another drying product. I always use a lip balm for those two matted lipsticks. Thanks as always for your comments :)
DeleteOooh i am really loving that wet n wild color!
ReplyDeleteEleventh & Sixteenth
It a super fun color and it would do if you looking for the bright red lipstick.
DeleteGreat review Kreyola. Thx for sharing. Those shades are all great on you btw! I hate the drying part myself :(
