I'm In A Funky Mood Ladies & Gentlemen
9:05 AMMy third year anniversary is around the corner, and I'm not happy with my length. Yes I know I'm whining, but that what been on my thoughts these past weeks. I need to stop comparing my sisterlocks length to others. I have a sneaky suspicion that my sisterlocks is dealing with some major shrinkage, and that is always going to be the case.
I took some new pictures to perk me up this Saturday. When I do my anniversary post, I will do my typical comparison shots, and hopeful that will give me the much needed boost to continue on.
Since I get asked a lot on what I use on my sisterlocks, I will from time to time post the main type of products I use. I'm currently using Biotin (Hair Growth), Jamaican Black Castor Oil (Hair Growth...Recipe found here), and Aura Rosemary Mint Shampoo & Conditioner (Combo Deal) (Clarify Shampoo). I have detail post about these products, so check them out before making your final decisions.

Your locks look beautiful and healthy to me! The only thing that I would suggest to see if you can gain additional length is to not flat iron them for at least another year. I am strongly against flat irons on any type of textured or relaxed hair. Just wet style them for a whole year. By the way, your cut is beautiful. Do you have to reshape it often?
ReplyDeleteI usually space my flat ironing between 6-12 months for a little extra length. Hopefully by next year I be at my desired length. As for the cut, I never had a cut done on my sisterlocks; it just naturally grew out like that.
ReplyDeleteUr locs look awesome. Would u really take them down for length??? It's traumatic for me just thinking about it. LOL....
ReplyDeleteI have not been thinking of taking them down. I'm just frustrated with the comments that my sisterlocks is not growing (friends & family members) and then looking at other who started with way less than me, but are surpassing me in length. It a double edge sword when you are comparing your locks to others and I really need to stop.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! In another two weeks, I will receive my SisterLocks installation. We are planning for two days of installation. I am curious since my hair curl is so kinky will I see a lot of length as quickly as someone with a looser curl pattern. I will let you know in about six months how my length is progressing. I figure that I will only see about one and half inches in length within a six month span because my curl pattern shrinks so much. I wonder if the weight of the lock will stretch the length as they get longer. I have so many questions, and I am so excited to have my installation date coming up! I will ask my SisterLocks consultant about a cut. I want my SisterLocks to grow out evenly like yours! Are you using the SisterLocks hair maintenance products? Your locks look gorgeous! Forgive me if you have answered some of these questions already. I need to finish reading through your blog. Thanks again for your help!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on getting your installation set and ready to go. If you hair is like mines (extra kinky) then you won't be seeing length anytime soon. The back of my hair is looser than the rest, and I can see the length there, but my sides haven't seen true length for a very long time.
ReplyDeleteI can pull the lock right now and see that it is dealing with shrinkage. I too thought as my hair start to grow downward, it would stop shrinking, and so far it has not.
I use sisterlocks hair maintenance the first year and now I use homemade and commercial products on my hair.
If you want your hair to grow out evenly then I suggest you cut your natural hair evenly. I lost most of my hair before growing natural due to alopecia, and because of that I had to cut the rest to match the hair loss area. After my hair cut, my hair continued to grow out evenly, and when my hair was at a certain length I got sisterlocks.
If you have any additional questions, go ahead and ask ^_^. Thanks ladies for the compliments. I really appreciate it.
Your hair is stunning! But I totally understand how you feel!! I am going on 3 years in Aug. and I feel like I should see way more growth. I wish I cut my hair beforehand bc my hair is very uneven and hard to curl. But once the curlers are out it can look like layers. lol
ReplyDelete@The Woman Inside...I'm so happy to hear I'm not the only one that is having those kinds of thoughts. Thanks for the feedback.
ReplyDeleteIf you take note to the men who have locks. they just wash & go, whereas a lot of us ladies do so much more. Cut back on some of the "extras" and remember the beauty of Sisterlocks is they are unique on everyone that has them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the advice Anonymous. I usually don't style or do anything to my hair for a month or two. I may extend it some more to see if that does anything.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way sometimes about my hair. I continue to tell myself that it is a journey. Unfortunately I only have 2 hairstyles that I wear. Up in a puff or freestyle. My density is 4-8 strands per follicle and the strands are thick. But I need to do better! I hope you are feeling better about your hair and I enjoy reading your blog.
ReplyDelete@divinelycoiled..Thanks for the comment. I'm feeling much better now. I'm to tell myself this is a journey and from time to time it will have some good and bad patches.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog its very informative.I just got my sisterlocks installed. And I have to I'm not a happy camper. I went with a consultant that use to teach and has been doing locs for 16+ years. Is your consultant taking new clients, I need a consultant to review what I have in my head. Please email me crafty636@gmail.com
ReplyDelete@Gridloc...thanks for the comment. I don't know if My consultant is taking any more clients (last time I ask she wasn't), but I don't see why she wouldn't take a look and offer you her input. I know another consultant that just move down here, so I will send both numbers.
