Interview: Meet Terez & Her Sisterlocks
10:03 PM
I'm so excite to do my first sisterlocks rocker interview. So please join me in welcoming Terez Howard. Below are my questions & her responds about her sisterlocks journey.
What made you decide to do sisterlocks vs. traditional locks?
When I decided to lock my hair, I knew that micro locs were for me. I wanted to have the option of doing intricate styling on my hair. I feel like the tiny parts allow for that. Also, I just love the look!
How long have you been sisterlocks?
I have had my locs since October of 2010, so I'm at 15 months.
Any downside to being sisterlocked or locked in general?
I find myself obsessing over lint and product build-up. I spend some time in the mirror just about every day, searching for any unwanted predators in my hair. I never worried about these things as a loose natural.
Knowing what you do know now. Would you do anything differently?
Absolutely! I would not have gotten Sisterlocks (TM), or I would have gotten them installed and immediately started maintaining them on my own. After I took the retightening class, I wanted to share what I learned on YouTube, especially since the process actually is readily available online. It's just not called the trademarked name. When my retightening video got shut down, I felt very jaded after spending a ridiculous amount of money on something that isn't as unique as its portrayed. I love tiny locs. But if I do it again, I don't feel the urge to do it "the Sisterlocks (TM) way."
What has been the weirdest questions asked about your sisterlocks.
"Did you get rid of those loc thingies?" A white friend recently asked me this when I styled my hair in an updo, and later she saw my locs down. She thought that the updo was not locs.
Do you have a "dream" length of how long you want your sisterlocks to be?
Yes. I long for the day when my locs are bra strap length. My hair has never ever been that long. I feel like that length opens up a world of hair styling options.
I hear you doing a 29 Styles, 29 Days, $29 sisterlocks style challenge. What made you come up with that idea?
In the beginning of my locking journey, I rarely ever styled my hair because I was afraid of messing it up. I also thought my hair was too short to style. I want to prove myself wrong with this challenge as well as satisfy my longing to style my hair. One of the main reasons I chose to lock my hair was for the purpose of styling. I want to show off my hair's versatility. I also want to show other lockers with short hair that they too can do something different with their hair every day if they wanted.
Terez is going to start a 29 Styles, 29 Days hair challenge starting tomorrow, where she will be creating different & unique hair style everyday. Her expensive will be $29 dollars for the whole month of February. You can visit her site and the full detail of the challenge here. Below are pictures of her sisterlocks & her YouTube Video. Enjoy!!!
