I never thought to add Perm Rods to my collection of hair items, since I have the large soft spike and the pipe cleaners, but I have been hearing rave reviews from the dreadlocks community about perm rods. So I decided to give them a try. Below are the results of the Perm Rods on my sisterlocks. The curls lasted 2 days. This kind of sucked! I know many lock wearer suggest using settling lotion to make the curls last longer, but I don't want too, and the amount of time it took me to put those damn perm rods (sorry for the mild curse word); I wanted them to at least last a week *UGH*.

Curl Definition

1. Pipe Cleaner Version I - Has more curl definition then all of them. If you want more longer lasting curls, then try the Pipe Cleaner.
2. Large Soft Spike - Has a looser curl pattern on short sisterlocks. Meaning the large soft spike will give you a layer wave look. If you have really long sisterlocks, I'm sure you will get a more shirly temple curls as well. 
3. Perm Rods - Shirley temple type of curls. Way more bouncey then the pipe cleaner curl.

Ease of Application

1. Pipe Cleaner Version I was the simplest out of all. 
2. Soft Spike (Large) came in second. 
3. Then Perm Rods came in last.

Cost

1. Pipe Cleaners - At $1 a package, Pipe Cleaners is the cheapest options and can be used in 2 different ways. You only need 2 packages for the most part.
2. Perm Rods - Come in as the second cheapest option. You will need a total of 4-5 packages (average 12 perm rods). The package I got was 79 cent each.
3. Soft Spike (Large) - Not cheap and if you looking for a cheaper option check out Lock Loops^TM

Dislike

1. Pipe Cleaners - Get the black pipe cleaners because a couple of the strand will come on your locks and the black blends in better. Still I don't like the fact that it can leave strands on my locks.
2. Perm Rods - Take a while to put on. Hard to sleep with, so I had to loosen them up a bit.
3. Soft Spike (Large) - The only issue I have is the cost.

So in the end I will mostly use my Perm Rods and soft spike to curl my locks. If the second versions of my Pipe Cleaners yield the same result as either the perm rods or soft spike, I will retire the pipe cleaners.

Note: I'm coming out with another version of how to for Pipe Cleaner. Been lazy, since version II require more work and time.
